Roswell, GA (May 19-25, 2013)- Roswell will celebrate National Public Works Week, May 19 – 25, with community events showcasing the men and women who work in the City’s Public Works/Environmental, Community Development and Transportation Departments.
All events are free and open to the public:
- Saturday, May 18 – Touch-A-Truck
9:00 a.m. – Noon at City Hall
Explore first-hand the equipment used to provide necessary services to Roswell residents. Bring the kids and see the mysterious workings of the street sweeper or watch up-close how the sanitation truck works.
- Tuesday, May 21 – Sanitation Truck Rodeo
7:00 a.m. at City Hall
Drivers will compete by driving backward around the circular drive, maneuvering through an obstacle course, and emptying trash cans into dumpsters all while being timed.
- Thursday, May 23 – Forklift Competition
8:00 a.m. at 1810 Hembree Road (the Fire, Transportation and Public Works Facility) behind the building.
Employees from Roswell’s Public Works/Environmental and Transportation Departments will test their skills in handling forklift equipment, while being judged on time and accuracy.
- Friday, May 24 – Trackhoe Competition
10:00 a.m. at Roswell Area Park
Employees from Roswell’s Public Works/Environmental and Transportation Departments will test their skills in handling trackhoe equipment, while being judged on time and accuracy.
National Public Works Week is sponsored nationally by the American Public Works Association (APWA). This year’s theme is “Because of Public Works…” which highlights the quality of life brought to communities around the world.
